I went searching for some food similar to Dominican food since I had a craving. The food was great they give you very large portions for low prices in my opinion. I paid about $25 for two people to eat, and we had food to bring home. A lot of food I want to add. We started off with the sweet plantains which were deliciously sweet. I ordered the pollo guisado (stewed chicken) and the person with me ordered pollo frito (fried chicken). We were both extremely satisfied with our food. I had the arroz con guandules ( it's the yellow rice and peas), and the person I came with had the white rice and beans.

The waitress and staff were Spanish speaking. They seemed to have limited English. It wasn't a problem for me since I speak Spanish. The waitress was very nice and explained the dishes to the person I came with who wasn't familiar with Puerto Rican food.

I would recommend this place to somebody looking for authentic Puerto Rican food or somebody looking for Dominican food in the Chicago area. I plan to take more of my friends and family back to try it again!!

SN: definitely try the jugo de parcha (passion fruit juice) it was so good.

Long wait times for jibaritos... I have been to other establishments with more complicated meals that take shorter - food itself was OK but not anything to have me returning from my far north side home- plus the service truly leaves much to be desired - its like they don't really have an interest in providing good customer service- their communication, people skills, following up on the customers was non-existent and I should note, the place was not very busy.

Even to pay it took well over 8 minutes.

I guess if you are in the area, its OK if you do not mind the long wait times and below average customer service.

I visit this place a few times a month and I am never disappointed. The customer service is great and the food is even better. I always get the chicken jibarito with Spanish rice. The price a good too, my meal is always under $10. One thing I'm not too crazy about is the fee for using your credit card to pay. Most places will charge you a fee if it's under a certain amount but here they charge you regardless of how much you spend and the amount depends on your total, so I'd suggest paying in cash if possible. You can call your order in ahead and pick it up but they do not have delivery. Parking is usually easy to find but it is pay to park. Overall this is my favorite spot to get Puerto Rican food. It's worth a try.

Don't get the pastelillo as an appetizer. You'll be too full to eat anything else. The are tasty.

There are a dozen tables in this cute little dive. Cheap but fun decor with puerto rican themed art class wall hangings, framed posters and ceramic chickens.

English is not generally spoken here, but menu is translated.

The steak sandwich and jibaritos (sandwiches served on flattened fried plantains instead of bread) are  good but nothing special. There's a big dollop of garlic sauce on top of the jibarito that I find a bit overpowering.

We enjoyed our visit but don't think we'll return.
